One of the brightest stars in the Empire is the hot blue star known in the March as Gallows Rock. Orbital facilities around the star were constructed to capture solar energy and for a brief period the system, then known as Haven, thrived exporting cheap power cells to the settlements in the March. The decline of the March, however, saw an end to Haven's prosperity as the cost of shipping to external markets ate into the mariginal profits on its energy exports.

During the Antaran Sucession crisis, the Buccaneers moved into the derelict solar collectors and used them as a base of operations for their attacks on the Neo-Republicans. Refitting the collectors allowed the Buccaneers to retrofit their warships with high power beam weapons that could slice through enemy ships with ease, but had a limited number of shots before they ahd to return to Gallows Rock and replace their spent power cells. Combined with the hit and run tactics used by the Buccaneers, this allowed them to inflict crushing defeats on the Neo-Republicans.

At the end of the crisis, Gallows Rock was largely abandoned. The Buccaneers periodically swept the system for pirates, and their habit of parking the gutted hulls of pirate ships in orbit around the star led to the adoption of the system's current name. Over the years, the gallows graveyard has expanded steadily, though not all the hulks drifting there look particularly suited for piracy...
